Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we said: O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! Tomorrow we will face the enemy and we do not have knives with us, can we slaughter with bark or skin? The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whatever causes the blood to flow and Allah's name is mentioned upon it at the time of slaughter, eat of it. But (the instrument that causes the blood to flow) should not be a tooth or a nail, because the tooth is a bone of a human and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians."
