It is narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the day of the Battle of the Trench, we were prevented from performing the prayer until a part of the night had passed after Maghrib, until Allah sufficed us from it, and this is the statement of Allah the Exalted: "And Allah was sufficient for the believers in battle, and Allah is Strong and Mighty." [احزاب: 25] The Prophet (ﷺ) called Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) and instructed him, so he gave the Iqamah for Zuhr, and the Prophet (ﷺ) led the Zuhr prayer in such a good manner as if he was praying it at its proper time. Then (Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him) gave the Iqamah for Asr, and the Prophet (ﷺ) led that prayer also in the same (good) manner. Then he gave the Iqamah for Maghrib and led the prayer in the same way. Then he gave the Iqamah for Isha and led that also in the same (good) manner. And this incident occurred before the verse regarding the prayer of fear was revealed: "(If you fear) then [pray] on foot or riding." [البقرة: 239]
