Hadith 1495

It is narrated from Yahya Mazni (may Allah be pleased with him) that Dahhak bin Khalifa made a small water channel from the place of ‘Aridh to his field, and he wanted to pass it through the land of Muhammad bin Maslamah. But Muhammad bin Maslamah refused. Dahhak spoke to ‘Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) about this, so he said to Muhammad bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him), “Allow him the way.” Muhammad bin Maslamah said, “No.” Then ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “Why do you prevent your brother from something that is beneficial for him, while it is also beneficial for you, as all your land will receive water without hardship?” Even then, Muhammad bin Maslamah refused. So ‘Umar said, “By Allah! This channel will definitely pass, even if it has to pass over you.”
