أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، أَنَّ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ نُسَيٍّ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ قَيْسَ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ يَقُولُ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصُّنَابِحِيُّ أَنَّهُ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَصَلَّى وَرَاءَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ الْمَغْرِبَ، فَقَرَأَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ، وَسُورَةٍ مِنْ قِصَارِ الْمُفَصَّلِ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ، فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ، حَتَّى إِنَّ ثِيَابِي تَكَادُ أَنْ تَمَسَّ ثِيَابَهُ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ وَهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ: رَبَّنَا لا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ [آلِ عِمْرَانَ: 8] . أَخْرَجَ الثَّلَاثَةَ الْأَحَادِيثَ فِي كِتَابِ اخْتِلَافِ مَالِكٍ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ.
Abu Abdullah Al-Sanabaji narrates that he came to Madinah during the caliphate of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and he prayed Maghrib behind Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). In the first two rak‘ahs, he recited Surah Al-Fatihah and one surah each from the short Mufassal surahs. Then, when he stood for the third rak‘ah—(Abu Abdullah says) I came so close to him that my clothes were almost touching his clothes—I heard him reciting Surah Al-Fatihah and this verse: “Our Lord! Do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself. Surely, You are the Bestower.” (Aal-e-Imran: 8)
