Hadith 1423

أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرِ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ صَلَاحُهُ. قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: فَقُلْتُ: أَخَصَّ جَابِرٌ النَّخْلَ أَوِ التَّمْرَ؟ قَالَ: بَلِ النَّخْلَ. وَلَا نَرَى [ ص: 191 ] كُلَّ ثَمَرَةٍ إِلَّا مِثْلَهُ.
It is narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade selling fruits before they are ripe. Ibn Jurayj says: I asked whether Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) specified the date-palm tree or the dates themselves, so he said: Rather, the date-palm tree, and we consider this principle to apply to every fruit.
