It is narrated from Malik bin Aws bin Hadthan that he needed to exchange 100 dinars (for dirhams). He stated: Talha bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) called me, and we discussed our matter until it was settled. He took the dinars and began turning them over in his hand, then said: "Let my male or female treasurer come from Ghaba." Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I am doubtful about this. And Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was listening to these things. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! Do not separate from Talha until you take the money from him." Then he said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Gold for gold, if not hand to hand, is usury; dates for dates, if not hand to hand, is usury; and barley for barley, if not hand to hand, becomes usury." Imam Shafi’i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I read this hadith to Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) correctly without doubt, then a long time passed and I could not remember, so I became doubtful about 'khazini' and 'khazinatihi'. However, other narrators besides me narrate 'khazini' from Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him).
