It is narrated from Abdullah bin Utbah that Sabi’ah bint Harith (may Allah be pleased with her) gave birth to a child a few days after the death of her husband. Abu Sanabil bin Ba’kak (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by her and said, “You have adorned yourself for marriage, while your waiting period (‘iddah) is four months and ten days.” Sabi’ah mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), so he (ﷺ) said: “Abu Sanabil has spoken incorrectly, or as Abu Sanabil said, the matter is not so. You have completed your ‘iddah, you may marry.”
