أَخْبَرَنَا عَمِّي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ عُجَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ: أَنَّ رُكَانَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ سُهَيْمَةَ الْمُزَنِيَّةَ أَلْبَتَّةَ، ثُمَّ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ: إِنِّي طَلَّقْتُ امْرَأَتِي سُهَيْمَةَ أَلْبَتَّةَ، وَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِرُكَانَةَ: "وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً؟" ، فَقَالَ رُكَانَةُ: وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً، فَرَدَّهَا إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَطَلَّقَهَا الثَّانِيَةَ فِي زَمَانِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَالثَّالِثَةَ فِي زَمَانِ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.
It is narrated from Nafi’ bin Ujeir bin ‘Abd Yazeed that Rukanah bin ‘Abd Yazeed (may Allah be pleased with him) gave his wife Suhaimah Al-Muzaniyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) an irrevocable divorce (Talaq-e-Battah). Then he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: “O Messenger of Allah! I have given my wife Suhaimah an irrevocable divorce, and by Allah, I only intended one divorce.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Rukanah: “By Allah! Did you only intend one?” Then Rukanah said: “By Allah! I only intended one.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned her to Rukanah (may Allah be pleased with him). Then Rukanah gave her a second divorce during the caliphate of ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and a third divorce during the caliphate of ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
