أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ شَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ عُجَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ: أَنَّ رُكَانَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ يَزِيدَ طَلَّقَ امْرَأَتَهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي طَلَّقْتُ امْرَأَتِي أَلْبَتَّةَ، وَوَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: "وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً" ، فَقَالَ رُكَانَةُ: مَا أَرَدْتُ إِلَّا وَاحِدَةً، فَرَدَّهَا إِلَيْهِ.
It is narrated from Nafi’ bin ‘Ujeir bin ‘Abd Yazid that Rukanah bin ‘Abd Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced his wife, then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: “I have given my wife a talaq-e-battah (final and absolute divorce), and by Allah, I only intended one (divorce).” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (seeking confirmation) said: “By Allah! Did you only intend one?” Rukanah replied: “Yes, I only intended one.” So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the woman back to him.
