قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ فِي كِتَابِهِ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، عَنْ عَوْفٍ، عَنْ يَسَارِ بْنِ سَلَامَةَ أَبِي الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ: أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَصِفُ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: كَانَ يُصَلِّي الصُّبْحَ، ثُمَّ يَنْصَرِفُ وَمَا يَعْرِفُ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا جَلِيسَهُ، وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِالسِّتِّينَ إِلَى الْمِائَةِ. أَخْرَجَ الْأَوَّلَ مِنْ كِتَابِ اسْتِقْبَالِ الْقِبْلَةِ وَالثَّانِيَ مِنَ الْجُزْءِ الثَّانِي مِنَ اخْتِلَافِ الْحَدِيثِ، وَإِلَى آخِرِ السَّادِسِ مِنْ كِتَابِ اخْتِلَافِ عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ مِمَّا لَمْ يَسْمَعِ الرَّبِيعُ مِنَ الشَّافِعِيِّ.
It is narrated from Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that while describing the way the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed prayer, he said: When you finished the morning prayer and turned back, none of us could recognize the person sitting next to him (because of the darkness), and the Prophet (ﷺ) would recite between sixty and one hundred verses.
