Qabeesah bin Dhuwaib narrates that a man asked Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) about two sisters who are owned by one man; can he have intercourse with both of them? Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "One verse has made both of them lawful, while another verse has made both of them unlawful, and as for myself, I do not like to do this." Qabeesah said that the man left from him and met one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "If I had any authority in the matter, and then I found a man who had done this, I would make him an example." Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ibn Shihab said, "In my opinion, he is Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him)." Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I have also received similar information regarding Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him)."
