Hadith 1131

It is narrated from Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to her: "When your waiting period ('iddah) is over, inform me." She says: When my 'iddah was over, I informed the Prophet (ﷺ) that Muawiyah and Abu Jahm (may Allah be pleased with them both) had proposed marriage to me. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Muawiyah is a poor man, he has no wealth, and as for Abu Jahm, he never puts his stick down from his shoulder (i.e., he beats women). Marry Usamah bin Zaid." So I married him, and Allah placed so much goodness and blessing in that marriage that other women began to envy me.
