It is narrated from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah, he drew lots for the residences of the people. The lot of Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) came out in the name of Sa’d bin Rabi’ (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: “Come, I will divide my wealth with you, and I will leave for you whichever of my two wives you wish (by separating from her), and I will also work for you.” Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: “May Allah bless your family and your wealth for you, just show me the way to the market.” He (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the market and earned some wealth, then he sent a proposal to a woman and married her. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: “O Abdur Rahman! For how much dowry did you marry her?” Abdur Rahman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “For a gold nugget.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Give a wedding feast, even if it is with only one goat.”
