Hadith 108

أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّافِعِيُّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَضِيَ عَنْهَا: أَنَّ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ تُهْرَاقُ الدَّمَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَاسْتَفْتَتْ لَهَا أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: "لِتَنْظُرْ عَدَدَ اللَّيَالِي وَالْأَيَّامِ، الَّتِي كَانَتْ تَحِيضُهُنَّ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصِيبَهَا الَّذِي أَصَابَهَا، فَلْتَتْرُكِ الصَّلَاةَ قَدْرَ ذَلِكَ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ، فَإِذَا خَلَّفَتْ ذَلِكَ فَلْتَغْتَسِلْ، ثُمَّ لِتَسْتَثْفِرْ بِثَوْبٍ ثُمَّ لِتُصَلِّي" .
It is narrated from the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), that during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, a woman used to experience excessive bleeding. Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her issue, so he ﷺ said: "Estimate the number of nights and days she used to have menstruation before this illness of istihada, and leave prayers for that many days in the month. When that time passes, she should perform ghusl, then tie a cloth and perform the prayers."
