Hadiths 1401 to 1499
وَمَا تَقَرَّبَ إِلَيَّ عَبْدِي الْمُؤْمِنُ بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَا تَعَبَّدَ لِي بِمِثْلِ أَدَاءِ مَا افْتَرَضْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ، يَا مُوسَى إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَصَنَّعِ الْمُتَصَنِّعُونَ لِي بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا
My servant does not draw near to Me with anything like renunciation of the world, nor worship Me with anything like fulfilling what I have made obligatory upon him; O Musa, those who pretend for My sake have not pretended with anything like renunciation of the world
Hadith 1458
1458 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ، أبنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ السُّكَّرِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ هُوَ ابْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ الصُّوفِيُّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى نَادَى مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِمِئَةِ أَلْفٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفِ كَلِمَةٍ وَصَايَا كُلُّهَا، فَكَانَ فِيمَا نَاجَاهُ أَنْ قَالَ لَهُ: يَا مُوسَى إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَصَنَّعِ الْمُتَصَنِّعُونَ لِي بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَمْ يَتَقَرَّبِ الْمُتَقَرِّبُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْوَرَعِ عَمَّا حَرَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلَمْ يَتَعَبَّدِ الْمُتَعَبِّدُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْبُكَاءِ مِنْ خِيفَتِي " مُخْتَصَرٌ
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, spoke to Musa (peace be upon him) with one hundred and forty thousand words, all of which were admonitions. Among what was said in that conversation was: O Musa! Truly, those who pretend and affect asceticism for My sake have not pretended anything in this world like asceticism, and those who seek nearness have not attained nearness like abstaining from what I have made unlawful, and those who worship have not worshipped like the worship of weeping out of fear of Me.” This hadith is concise.
Hadith 1459
1459 - وَأَنَاهُ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الرَّازِيُّ بِالْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ بْنِ خَلَّادٍ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، نا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ سَجَّادَةٌ، نا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْجَنْبِيُّ عَمْرُو بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَقَالَ: «يَا مُوسَى إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَصَنَّعِ الْمُتَصَنِّعُونَ بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَمْ يَتَقَرَّبِ الْمُتَقَرِّبُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْوَرَعِ عَمَّا حَرَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلَمْ يَتَعَبَّدِ الْمُتَعَبِّدُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْبُكَاءِ مِنْ خِيفَتِي»
It is narrated from Jubair through another chain that he said: "O Musa! Indeed, those who pretend and affectation have not shown any affectation in the world like that of asceticism, and those who seek nearness have not attained nearness like that of abstaining and avoiding what I have forbidden, and those who worship have not worshipped like the worship of weeping out of My fear."
Hadith 1460
1460 - وَأَنَاهُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْجِيزِيُّ، أنا أَبُو عَمْرٍو زَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أنا عَمِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي الْمَاضِي بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ جُوَيْبِرٍ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ: «إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَتَصَنَّعِ الْمُتَصَنِّعُونَ بِمِثْلِ الزُّهْدِ فِي الدُّنْيَا، وَلَمْ يَتَقَرَّبِ الْمُتَقَرِّبُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْوَرَعِ عَمَّا حَرَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَلَمْ يَتَعَبَّدِ الْمُتَعَبِّدُونَ بِمِثْلِ الْبُكَاءِ مِنْ خِيفَتِي»
It is narrated from Juwaybir with another chain: "The reality is that those who feign and affectation have not feigned anything in the world like the asceticism they feign, and those who seek nearness have not attained nearness like that attained by abstaining from and avoiding what I have forbidden, and the worshippers have not worshipped like the worship of weeping out of My fear."
