Hadiths 1401 to 1499
لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثًا
If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would seek a third
Hadith 1441
1441 - أَخْبَرَنَا هِبَةُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ بُنْدَارٍ، ثنا أَبُو عَرُوبَةَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا الْخَلِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثًا، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ»
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, if the son of Adam were to possess two valleys full of wealth, he would certainly seek a third valley along with them, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except the dust (of the grave), and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents."
Hadith 1442
1442 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أبنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ رَشِيقٍ، أبنا أَبُو الْعَلَاءِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْكُوفِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ، حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ التَّمِيمِيُّ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُرَاوِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: «إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَا الْمَالَ لِإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَلَوْ كَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادٍ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُ وَادِيَانِ، وَلَوْ كَانَ لَهُ وَادِيَانِ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَيْهِمَا ثَالِثٌ، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ بَطْنَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqqad Al-Laithi, may Allah be pleased with him, that indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has said: Indeed, We have sent down wealth for the establishment of prayer and the giving of zakat. If the son of Adam possesses a valley (full of wealth), he will wish that he had two valleys, and if he has two valleys, he will wish that he had a third with them. And nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except the dust (of the grave), and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents."
Hadith 1443
1443 - وأنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بُهْزَادَ نا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، نا عَارِمٌ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، نا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ وَاسْمُهُ الْوَضَّاحُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ، يَعْنِي مِنْ مَالِهِ لَبَغَى إِلَيْهِمَا الثَّالِثَ.» وَبَقِيَّةُ الْمَتْنِ عَلَى مَا هُوَ بِهِ، رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ وَقُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ يَحْيَى: أَنَا، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ: نَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ يَرْفَعُهُ: «لَوْ كَانَ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَانِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا» الْحَدِيثَ
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, if the son of Adam has two valleys of wealth, he will certainly seek a third as well." The remaining text is the same as that of the other hadith. And Muslim has also narrated it with his chain from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) in a marfu‘ form: If the son of Adam has two valleys of wealth, he will certainly seek a third as well.
