Hadiths 1201 to 1400
مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا مِثْلُ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ السَّبَّابَةَ فِي الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ
The world compared to the Hereafter is like one of you dipping his finger in the sea; let him see what he brings back
Hadith 1385
1385 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، بِمَكَّةَ، أبنا زَاهِرٌ السَّرَخْسِيُّ، أبنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، أبنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، أبنا الْمُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ الْمُسْتَوْرِدَ، أَخَا بَنِي فِهْرٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا كَمَثَلِ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ السَّبَّابَةَ فِي الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ»
The brother of Bani Qahr, Sayyiduna Mustawrid (may Allah be pleased with him), reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of this world in comparison to the Hereafter is like that of one of you dipping his forefinger into the sea, then (taking it out and) seeing how much water it returns with."
Hadith 1386
1386 - أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْغَازِي، ثنا أَبُو قُتَيْبَةَ بْنُ سَلْمٍ، قَالَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنِ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ الْفِهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا كَمَثَلِ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ السَّبَّابَةَ فِي الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ» وَرَوَاهُ مُسْلِمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنْ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْهُمْ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ بِإِسْنَادِهِ مِثْلَهُ، وَقَالَ: مِثْلُ مَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ هَذِهِ، وَأَشَارَ يَحْيَى بِالسَّبَّابَةِ
Sayyiduna Mustawrid Qahari (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of this world in comparison to the Hereafter is like that of one of you dipping his forefinger into the sea, then (taking it out and) seeing how much water it returns with." Muslim ibn Hajjaj narrated it from a group (of hadith scholars), among whom is Muhammad ibn Hatim, and these are his words. He said: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid narrated to us with his chain in this manner and said: "Like one of you dips this finger," and Yahya ibn Sa'id gestured with his forefinger.
Hadith 1387
1387 - أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أنا الْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ مُسْتَوْرِدٍ الْفِهْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا كَمَا يَجْعَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ إِصْبَعَهُ فِي الْيَمِّ فَلْيَنْظُرْ بِمَ يَرْجِعُ»
Sayyiduna Mistawrid Fahri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The world in comparison to the Hereafter is like one of you dipping his finger into the sea, then (taking it out and) seeing how much water it returns with."
