مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ السُّنْبُلَةِ
The example of the believer is like the ear of grain
Hadith 1360
1360 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْفَرَّاءُ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ حَمَدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ، ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الصَّبَّاحِ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يُونُسَ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ السُّنْبُلَةِ تُحَرِّكُهَا الرِّيحُ فَتَقُومُ مَرَّةً وَتَقَعُ أُخْرَى، وَمَثَلُ الْكَافِرِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ لَا تَزَالُ قَائِمَةً حَتَّى تَنْقَعِرَ»
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "The example of a believer is like that of a stalk (of grain) which the wind moves; sometimes it stands upright and sometimes it falls down. And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine tree which always stands straight until it is uprooted all at once."
Hadith 1361
1361 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ جَامِعٍ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ الْخَامَةِ مِنَ الزَّرْعِ يُحَرِّكُهَا الرِّيحُ يُقِيمُهَا مَرَّةً وَيَصْرَعُهَا أُخْرَى» ، وَذَكَرَ بَقِيَّةَ الْحَدِيثِ
It is narrated through another chain that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The example of a believer is like a young plant of a crop, which the wind moves; sometimes it makes it stand upright and sometimes it bends it down." And he narrated the rest of the hadith as well.
Hadith 1362
1362 - وأنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أَيْضًا أنا مُوسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ هُوَ ابْنُ الْإِمَامِ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ السُّنْبُلَةِ يُحَرِّكُهَا الرِّيحُ فَمَرَّةً تَقَعُ وَمَرَّةً تَقُومُ، وَمَثَلُ الْكَافِرِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْزَةَ لَا تَزَالُ قَائِمَةً حَتَّى تَنْقَعِرَ»

And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine tree; indeed, the pine always stands upright until (at once) it is uprooted."
Hadith 1363
1363 - أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أنا الْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ شَرِيكِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْأَسَدِيُّ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ السُّنْبُلَةِ يُحَرِّكُهَا الرِّيحُ فَتَقَعُ مَرَّةً وَتَقُومُ أُخْرَى، وَمَثَلُ الْكَافِرِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ أَوِ الْأَرْزَنَةِ لَا تَزَالُ قَائِمَةً حَتَّى تَنْقَعِرَ»
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The example of a believer is like that of a stalk of grain which the wind moves; sometimes it bends down and sometimes it stands upright. And the example of a disbeliever is like that of a pine or cedar tree (a hard type of tree from which sticks and the like are made) which always stands straight until (suddenly, all at once) it is uprooted.”
Hadith 1364
1364 - وأنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، نا ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، أنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، أنا أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ، نا ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ الْخَامَةِ مِنَ الزَّرْعِ يُمِيلُهَا الرِّيحُ مَرَّةً هَكَذَا وَمَرَّةً هَكَذَا، وَمَثَلُ الْمُنَافِقِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ الْمُجْذِيَةِ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ حَتَّى يَكُونَ انْجِعَافُهَا مَرَّةً» قَالَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو: الْأَرَزَةُ بِفَتْحِ الرَّاءِ مِنْ شَجَرِ الْأَرْزَنِ، قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ: الْأَرَزَةُ مِثْلُ فَاعِلَةِ الثَّابِتَةِ، قَالَ أَبُو عُبَيْدٍ: الْأَرْزَةَ بِسُكُونِ الرَّاءِ مِنْ شَجَرِ الْأَرْزِ وَهُوَ الصُّنُوبَرُ، وَالْمَجْذِيَةُ الثَّابِتَةُ، وَالْإِنْجِعَافُ الْإِنْقِلَاعُ، وَيُقَالُ بِالْخَاءِ
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of a believer is like a tender plant of a crop which the winds keep bending this way and that, and the example of a hypocrite is like a pine tree which stands straight on the ground until it is uprooted all at once." Abu Amr said: «ارزہ» is with a fatha on the ra and it is from «ارزن». Abu Ubaid said: The pronunciation of «ارزہ» is like «فاعلہ». Abu Ubaid also said that «ارزہ» is with a sukoon on the ra and it is the tree of pine. The meaning of «المجدیہ» is: straight. The meaning of «انجعاف» is: to be uprooted. And it is also said that the word «انجعاف» is with a kha instead of a jeem, «انخعاف».
Hadith 1365
1365 - حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الْفَارِسِيُّ، لَفْظًا مِنْ كِتَابِهِ، أنا أَبُو نَصْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَسْنُونَ، نا ابْنُ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ الرَّزَّازُ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُنَادِي، نا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْأَزْرَقُ، نا زَكَرِيَّا، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ الْخَامَةِ مِنَ الزَّرْعِ يُقَلِّبُهَا الرِّيحُ تَصْرَعُهَا مَرَّةً وَتَعْدِلُهَا أُخْرَى، وَمَثَلُ الْكَافِرِ مَثَلُ الْأَرْزَةِ الْمُجْذِيَةِ لَا يُفَكُّ أَصْلُهَا حَتَّى يَكُونَ انْجِعَافُهَا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً»
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b رضي الله عنه narrates from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that he صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "The example of a believer is like a young plant of a crop which the winds keep turning this way and that; sometimes it is bent down and sometimes it is made straight. And the example of a disbeliever is like a pine tree which stands straight, its root is not separated (from the ground) until it is uprooted all at once."
