The worst matters are newly invented ones
Hadith 1337
1337 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ، أبنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ فَهْدٍ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُطَرِّفٍ الْبَسْتِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ نَصْرٍ الْوَرَّاقُ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْبَزَّازُ، ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ مَنْظُورٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ، يَقُولُ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ، وَذَكَرَ حَدِيثًا طَوِيلًا فِيهِ خُطَبٌ لَهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهَا: «شَرُّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا، وَشَرُّ الْعَمَى عَمَى الْقَلْبِ، وَشَرُّ الْمَعْذِرَةِ حِينَ يَحْضُرُ الْمَوْتُ، وَشَرُّ النَّدَامَةِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ، وَشَرُّ الْمَآكِلِ أَكْلُ مَالِ الْيَتِيمِ، وَشَرُّ الْمَكَاسِبِ كَسْبُ الزِّنَى»
Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) says that we set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the expedition of Tabuk, and then he narrated a long hadith in which he mentioned a lengthy sermon of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which it was said: "The worst matters are the newly introduced affairs (in religion), and the worst blind person is the one who is blind of heart. The worst excuse is the one made at the time of death, and the worst shame is the shame on the Day of Resurrection. The worst food is the consumption of an orphan's wealth, and the worst earning is the earning from adultery."
