أَفْضَلُ الْعِبَادَةِ الْفِقْهُ، وَأَفْضَلُ الدِّينِ الْوَرَعُ
The best worship is understanding, and the best religion is piety
Hadith 1290
1290 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ النَّاقِدُ، أبنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْخَيَّاشُ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ آدَمَ، ثنا مُعَلَّى، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَا: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَفْضَلُ الْعِبَادَةِ الْفِقْهُ وَأَفْضَلُ الدِّينِ الْوَرَعُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) report that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best act of worship is understanding of the religion, and the virtue over religion is modesty."
