خِيَارُ أُمَّتِي عُلَمَاؤُهَا، وَخِيَارُ عُلَمَائِهَا حُلَمَاؤُهَا
The best of my nation are its scholars, and the best of its scholars are the forbearing
Hadith 1276
1276 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْفَتْحِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْفَرْغَانِيُّ، أبنا الْحَاكِمُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ الْأَزْهَرِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَلِيلٍ الْقُومَسِيُّ، ثنا نُوحُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا ابْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «خِيَارُ أُمَّتِي عُلَمَاؤُهَا، وَخِيَارُ عُلَمَائِهَا حُلَمَاؤُهَا، إِلَّا وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ لِلْعَالِمِ الرَّحِيمِ أَرْبَعِينَ ذَنْبًا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِلجَّاهِلِ الْبَذِيءِ ذَنْبًا وَاحِدًا، وَإِنَّ الْعَالِمَ الرَّحِيمَ يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَنُورُهُ قَدْ أَضَاءَ، فَيَسِيرُ فِيهِ كَمَا يَسِيرُ الْكَوْكَبُ الدُّرِّيُّ» قَالَ الْحَاكِمُ: ابْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ: مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ الْمَدِينِيُّ، وَلَيْسَ بِالْقَعْنَبِيِّ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best people of my Ummah are its scholars, and the best of its scholars are those who are forbearing. Listen! Indeed, before Allah forgives one sin of a hard-hearted ignorant person, He forgives forty sins of a compassionate scholar. And indeed, the compassionate scholar will come on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that his light will be shining. He will walk in that (light) as a shining star." Imam Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: (Its chain) the narrator Ibn Muslima is Muhammad bin Muslima Madini, and he is not Muhammad bin Muslima Qanabi.
