إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ ثِيَابِكُمُ الْبَيَاضَ، وَإِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَكْحَالِكُمُ الْإِثْمِدَ
The best of your clothes is white, and the best of your kohl is antimony
Hadith 1253
1253 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْفَتْحِ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ نَزِيلُ الْبَصْرَةِ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْجُنَابِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، ثنا خَالِدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقُرَشِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْحَرَشِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ جُبَيْرٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ ثِيَابِكُمُ الْبَيَاضَ، فَأَلْبِسُوهَا أَحْيَاءَكُمْ، وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهَا مَوْتَاكُمْ، وَإِنَّ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَكْحَالِكُمُ الْإِثْمِدَ، يَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ وَيُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the best of your clothes are the white ones, so clothe your living in them and shroud your dead in them. And indeed, the best of your kohl is antimony (ithmid), for it sharpens the eyesight and causes the eyelashes to grow."
Hadith 1254
1254 - وأنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، نا ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، نا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ الطَّبِيبُ، نا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «خَيْرُ كُحْلِكُمُ الْإِثْمِدُ أَجْلَاهُ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَأَنْبَتُهُ لِلْأَشْعَارِ، وَخَيْرُ ثِيَابِكُمُ الْبِيضُ أَلْبِسُوُهَا أَحْيَاءَكُمْ وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهَا مَوْتَاكُمْ»
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best kohl among you is antimony, which sharpens the eyesight and grows the eyelashes. And the best clothes among you are white, so clothe your living in them and shroud your dead in them as well."
