خَيْرُ الْمَجَالِسِ أَوْسَعُهَا
The best gatherings are the most spacious
Hadith 1222
1222 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْبَزَّازُ، ثنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ، أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بُهْزَادٍ، ثنا بَكَّارُ بْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ الْقَاضِي، ثنا أَبُو الْمُطَرِّفِ بْنُ أَبِي الْوَزِيرِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «خَيْرُ الْمَجَالِسِ أَوْسَعُهَا»
Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best gatherings are those which are spacious.”
Hadith 1223
1223 - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ جَامِعٍ السُّكَّرِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، هُوَ ابْنُ قَعْنَبٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَوَالِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: أُوذِنَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ بِجِنَازَةٍ فِي قَوْمِهِ، فَكَأَنَّهُ تَخَلَّفَ حَتَّى أَخَذَ النَّاسُ مَجَالِسَهُمْ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ الْقَوْمُ تَسَرَّبُوا عَنْهُ، فَقَامَ بَعْضُهُمْ لِيَجْلِسَ فِي مَجْلِسِهِ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «خَيْرُ الْمَجَالِسِ أَوْسَعُهَا، ثُمَّ تَنَحَّى فَجَلَسَ فِي مَكَانٍ وَاسِعٍ»
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Amrah Ansari reports that Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) was informed of a funeral in his tribe. He was delayed until the people had already sat in their places. Then he came, and when the people saw him coming, they began to make room for him. Some of them stood up so that he could sit in their place. He then said: Listen! Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The best gatherings are those which are spacious." Then he moved aside and sat in an open space.
