لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلَّا مَا أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ
You have nothing of your wealth except what you eat and consume
Hadith 1217
1217 - أَخْبَرَنَا هِبَةُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي غَسَّانَ الْفَارِسِيُّ، أبنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، يَحْيَى بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الشَّاهِدُ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ سَنَةَ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَثَلَاثِ مِائَةٍ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ أَبُو صَالِحٍ، ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلِ بْنِ خَرَشَةَ الْمَازِنِيُّ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: " {أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ} [التكاثر: 1] قَالَ: يَقُولُ ابْنُ آدَمَ: مَالِي مَالِي وَلَيْسَ لَكَ مِنْ مَالِكَ إِلَّا مَا أَكَلْتَ فَأَفْنَيْتَ، أَوْ لَبِسْتَ فَأَبْلَيْتَ، أَوْ تَصَدَّقْتَ فَأَمْضَيْتَ "
Mutarrif bin Abdullah narrates from his father, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and I heard him reciting: ﴿أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ﴾ (At-Takathur: 1) "The mutual rivalry for piling up (worldly things) diverts you." (Then) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The son of Adam says: My wealth, my wealth, whereas from your wealth only that is yours which you have consumed and finished, or worn and worn out, or given in charity and sent ahead."
