لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ
Wealth is not from abundance of possessions
Hadith 1207
1207 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ الشَّاهِدُ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ، ثنا عَبَّاسٌ الدُّورِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ أَبِي حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ، إِنَّمَا الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ»
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abundance of possessions is not wealth; true wealth is the richness of the heart (contentment)."
Hadith 1208
1208 - وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، تُرَابُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أبنا الْمُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، أبنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ، إِنَّمَا الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ»
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abundance of possessions is not wealth; rather, true wealth is the richness of the heart (contentment)."
Hadith 1209
1209 - أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أنا الْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، نا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، نا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، أَنَّ عُثَيْمَ بْنَ نِسْطَاسٍ، مَوْلَى كَثِيرِ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ حَدَّثَنِي عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ، وَلَكِنَّ الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ، ثُمَّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يُوَفِّي كُلَّ عَبْدٍ مَا كَتَبَ لَهُ مِنَ الرِّزْقِ، فَأَجْمِلُوا فِي الطَّلَبِ، خُذُوا مَا حَلَّ وَدَعُوا مَا حَرُمَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O people! Abundance of possessions is not wealth; true wealth is the richness of the heart. Then indeed Allah, Blessed and Exalted, will give every servant his complete sustenance that He has written for him, so seek sustenance in a good manner, take what is lawful and leave what is unlawful."
Hadith 1210
1210 - وأنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، أَيْضًا نا الْقَاضِي أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدُوسٍ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، نا زَافِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَيْسَ الْغِنَى عَنْ كَثْرَةِ الْعَرَضِ، وَلَكِنَّ الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ» رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ، نَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَا: نَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ يَرْفَعُهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abundance of possessions is not wealth, rather (true) wealth is the richness of the heart (contentment)." Muslim has also narrated it with his chain from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) as a marfu' (attributed to the Prophet) narration.
Hadith 1211
1211 - أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ الْخَضِرِ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ، نا أَبُو الْفَرَجِ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ الصُّوفِيُّ، نا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، نا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ يَعْنِي عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، حَ. ونا الصَّدَفِيُّ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، نا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، مِثْلَهُ
This hadith is also narrated in the same way from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) through another chain of transmission.
