لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِغَيْرِنَا
Whoever imitates others is not of us
Hadith 1191
1191 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ، إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الشَّيْخُ صَالِحٌ، أبنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ رَشِيقٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ الطَّالْقَانِيُّ، ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِغَيْرِنَا، لَا تَشَبَّهُوا بِالْيَهُودِ وَلَا النَّصَارَى، فَإِنَّ تَسْلِيمَ الْيَهُودِ الْإِشَارَةُ بِالْأَصَابِعِ، وَتَسْلِيمَ النَّصَارَى التَّسْلِيمُ بِالْكَفِّ»
Amr ibn Shu'aib narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that indeed the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever imitates anyone other than us is not from among us, and do not imitate the Jews and Christians. The greeting of the Jews is to gesture with the fingers, while the greeting of the Christians is to gesture with the palms."
