إِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعَةُ مِنَ الْمَجَاعَةِ
Breastfeeding is only during hunger
Hadith 1176
1176 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَتْنَا فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَيَّانَ، قَالَتْ: حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّعْثَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعَةُ مِنَ الْمَجَاعَةِ» مُخْتَصَرٌ
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Suckling is only (established) by drinking milk due to hunger." This hadith is concise.
Hadith 1177
1177 - وأنا ابْنُ السِّمْسَارِ، أنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ، نا الْفَرَبْرِيُّ، أنا الْبُخَارِيُّ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، أنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ، بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ: «يَا عَائِشَةُ انْظُرْنَ مَنْ إِخْوَانُكُنَّ، فَإِنَّمَا الرَّضَاعَةُ مِنَ الْمَجَاعَةِ»
This narration is also reported from Ash'ath through another chain; he narrated it, and in it is (the wording): "Aisha! Make sure to see who your (milk) brothers are, for suckling is (established) through drinking milk in hunger."
