Hadith 952
952 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْحَايِرِيُّ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ السَّقَطِيُّ، وَذُو النُّونِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ قَالَا: ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ مَنِيعٍ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ رَاشِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ حَدِّثْنِي حَدِيثًا وَاجْعَلْهُ مُوجَزًا لَعَلِّي أَعِيهِ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «صَلِّ صَلَاةَ مُوَدِّعٍ، كَأَنَّكَ لَا تُصَلِّي بَعْدَهَا، وَايْأَسْ مِمَّا فِي أَيْدِي النَّاسِ تَعِشْ غَنِيًّا، وَإِيَّاكَ وَمَا يُعْتَذَرُ مِنْهُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Please tell me a hadith and keep it brief so that I can remember it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pray as if you are bidding farewell (to this world), as if you will not pray again after this. And despair of what people possess, you will live a life of contentment. And avoid that which you would later need to apologize for."
