Lady Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Charity does not decrease wealth, and when a servant forgives oppression and excess against him, Allah only increases his honor; therefore, you should forgive, Allah will increase your honor. And whoever opens the door of begging upon himself, Allah opens the door of poverty and need upon him." Al-Tabarani said: Only Qasim bin Yazid Jarami and Zakariya bin Dawud Ash'athi have narrated this hadith from Sufyan Thawri.

Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, there are three things upon which I can certainly swear: Wealth does not decrease by giving charity, so give charity. And whoever pardons any injustice or oppression seeking the pleasure of Allah, Allah will raise his status on the Day of Resurrection because of it. And whoever opens the door of begging upon himself, Allah opens the door of poverty and need upon him."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a man abused Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was also present. He (the Prophet) was amazed and was smiling. When the man became more insolent, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied to one of his remarks. At this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and stood up. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) got up and went to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah! He was abusing me while you were present, but when I replied to one of his remarks, you became angry and stood up?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, there was an angel with you who was replying to him, but when you replied to him, Satan appeared, so I am not one to sit with Satan." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Bakr! These things are true, so learn them: Whoever is wronged and overlooks it, Allah grants him strength and help in return. And whoever opens the door of giving as an act of truthfulness and maintaining family ties, Allah gives him more in return. And whoever opens the door of asking out of greed for abundance, Allah, because of that, increases his scarcity."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever opens the door of begging upon himself, Allah opens the door of poverty and neediness upon him. If a person were to take a rope, go to the mountain (or forest), gather a bundle of wood on his back, and then (sell it and) eat from it, this is better for him than going around asking people—whether they give him something or not."
