اصْنَعِ الْمَعْرُوفَ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَهْلُهُ
Do good to those who deserve it
Hadith 747
747 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، تُرَابُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْكَاتِبُ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمُقْرِئُ قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ الْمَعْرُوفُ، بِابْنِ الْمُفَسِّرِ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَاضِي، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اصْنَعِ الْمَعْرُوفَ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أَهْلُهُ وَإِلَى مَنْ لَيْسَ هُوَ أَهْلُهُ، فَإِنْ أَصَبْتَ أَهْلَهُ فَهُوَ أَهْلُهُ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تُصِبْ أَهْلَهُ فَأَنْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ»
Ja'far bin Muhammad narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Do good to the one who deserves it and to the one who does not deserve it, because if you do good to the one who deserves it, then you have done good to the right person, and if you do good to the one who does not deserve it, then (in that case) you yourself were deserving of it."
