Love your beloved moderately
Hadith 739
739 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أبنا ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرِ بْنُ أَبِي الدَّمِيكِ الْمُسْتَمْلِي، ثنا أَبُو الصَّلْتِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، ثنا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، ثنا جَمِيلُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَحْبِبْ حَبِيبَكَ هَوَّنًا مَا عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ بَغِيضَكَ يَوْمًا مَا، وَأَبْغِضْ بَغِيضَكَ هَوَّنًا مَا عَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ حَبِيبَكَ يَوْمًا مَا»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Love your friend to a certain extent only, for it is possible that one day he may become your enemy; and hate your enemy to a certain extent only, for it is possible that one day he may become your friend."
