Fear the Fire even with half a date
Hadith 678
678 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ التُّجِيبِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ، ثنا سَعْدَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ نَصْرٍ الْمُخَرِّمِيُّ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْمَكِّيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ , عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ»
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves from (the) Fire, even if it be with half a date."
Hadith 679
679 - أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ، أنا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَلِيحٍ الطَّرَائِفِيُّ، نا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ، نا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ عَزِيزُ الْوجودِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ، أنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ أَنَّ أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدَ الْغَنِيِّ بْنَ سَعِيدٍ الْحَافِظَ كَتَبَهُ عَنْهُ
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if it be with half a date." This hadith is rare among the narrations of Imam Malik. Abu Muhammad Tajibi informed us that indeed Abu Muhammad Abdul Ghani bin Sa'id al-Hafiz wrote it from him.
Hadith 680
680 - أنا أَبُو سَعْدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، بِبَغْدَادَ، نا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَامِدٍ نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْقَاسِمِ التَّيْمِيَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْوَرَّاقَ الْمُلَقَّبُ بِغَرِيفٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا حَفْصٍ الْفَلَّاسَ، يَقُولُ: نا أَبُو بَحْرٍ الْبَكْرَاوِيُّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ شُعْبَةَ فَجَاءَ سَائِلٌ فَقَالَ شُعْبَةُ: تَصَدَّقُوا، فَلَمْ يَتَصَدَّقُوا، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ» . فَلَمْ يُعْطَ السَّائِلُ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ: حَدَّثنا الْأَعْمَشِيُّ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقٍّ تَمْرَةٍ» فَلَمْ يُعْطُوا شَيْئًا. فَقَالَ: حَدَّثنا مُحِلُّ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ» قَالَ: فَلَمْ يُعْطُوا شَيْئًا. فَقَالَ: وَاللَّهِ لَا أُحَدِّثَنَّكُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِشَيْءٍ، قُومُوا دُكَّانَ الثَّعَاوِبَةِ
Abu Bahr Bakrawi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: We were with Imam Shu’bah when a beggar came, so Shu’bah said: Give charity. But the people did not give charity, so he said: Abu Ishaq narrated to us from Abdullah bin Ma’qil from ‘Adi bin Hatim that indeed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Save yourselves from the Fire, even if it is with half a date.” (Even after hearing the hadith) nothing was given to the beggar, so Imam Shu’bah said: Al-A’mash narrated to us from Khaythamah from ‘Adi bin Hatim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Save yourselves from the Fire, even if it is with half a date.” Even this time, the people did not give anything (to the beggar), so Imam Shu’bah said: Muhall bin Khalifah narrated to us, he said: I heard ‘Adi bin Hatim say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Save yourselves from the Fire, even if it is with half a date.” The narrator says that even then the people did not give anything, so Imam Shu’bah said: By Allah! Today I will keep narrating some hadith to you, you miserly shopkeepers! Get up and leave from here.
Hadith 681
681 - أنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ الْمُقْرِئُ، نا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ النَّحْوِيُّ، نا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، نا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، نا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ , عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ، رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ، وَذَكَرَهُ
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say... and he narrated this hadith.
Hadith 682
682 - أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّمْسَارُ بِدِمَشْقَ، أنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفَرَبْرِيُّ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ، نا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، نا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَعْقِلٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ»
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Save yourselves from the Fire, even if it is with half a date.”
Hadith 683
683 - وأنا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعْدُونَ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ نا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَغَوِيُّ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْوَرْكَانِيُّ، نا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ» قَالَ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ: قَالَ لَنَا ابْنُ مَنِيعٍ وَلَا أَعْلَمُ حَدَّثَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ أَحَدٌ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ غَيْرُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ وَهُوَ أَخُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ السُّحَيْمِيُّ، وَيُقَالُ: أَنَّهُ أَوْثَقُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Bashir (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if it be with a piece of date.” Imam Dar Qutni said: Ibn Munabbih told us: I do not know of anyone who narrated this hadith from Simak bin Harb except Ayyub bin Jabir. And he (Ayyub) is the brother of Muhammad bin Jabir Sahimi; it is said that he is more reliable than his brother Muhammad bin Jabir.
Hadith 684
684 - وأنا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ التُّجِيبِيُّ الْبَزَّازُ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ جَامِعٍ، نا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، نا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، نا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَعْقِلٍ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ، رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ. وَذَكَرَهُ
