ابْنَ آدَمَ عِنْدَكَ مَا يَكْفِيكَ وَأَنْتَ تَطْلُبُ مَا يُطْغِيكَ، ابْنَ آدَمَ لَا بِقَلِيلٍ تَقْنَعُ، وَلَا مِنْ كَثِيرٍ تَشْبَعُ
O son of Adam, you have what suffices you, yet you seek what will make you transgress; O son of Adam, you are not content with little, nor satisfied with much
Hadith 618
618 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دُوسْتَ النَّيْسَابُورِيُّ، قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ بِالْقُسْطَنْطِينِيَّةِ، أبنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ السُّلَمِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْأَصَمُّ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الدَّاهِرِيُّ، ثنا ثَوْرُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ يَعْنِي: ابْنَ الْمُهَاجِرِ الْحِجَازِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «ابْنَ آدَمَ عِنْدَكَ مَا يَكْفِيكَ وَأَنْتَ تَطْلُبُ مَا يُطْغِيكَ، ابْنَ آدَمَ لَا بِقَلِيلٍ تَقْنَعُ وَلَا مِنْ كَثِيرٍ تَشْبَعُ، إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ مُعَافًى فِي جَسَدِكَ آمِنَّا فِي سِرْبِكَ عِنْدَكَ قُوتُ يَوْمِكَ فَعَلَى الدُّنْيَا الْعَفَاءُ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O son of Adam! What you have is sufficient for you, yet you seek that which will make you rebellious. O son of Adam! You are not content with little, nor are you satisfied with much. When you wake up in the morning in a state of physical health, secure regarding yourself and free from fear, and you have your food for the day, then throw dust on the world."
