عَجِبْتُ لِغَافِلٍ وَلَا يُغْفَلُ عَنْهُ، وَعَجِبْتُ لِمَؤَمِّلٍ دُنْيَا وَالْمَوْتُ يَطْلُبُهُ، وَعَجِبْتُ لِضَاحِكٍ مِلْءَ فِيهِ وَلَا يَدْرِي أَأَرْضَى اللَّهَ أَمْ أَسْخَطَهُ؟
I am amazed at the heedless while he is not neglected, and at one who hopes for the world while death seeks him, and at one who laughs with a full mouth while not knowing whether Allah is pleased or angry with him

Hadith 594
594 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ يَحْيَى بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عُمَرَ النَّاقِدُ قَالَا: ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ الْخَيَّاشُ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ يُونُسَ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ، ثنا أَبِي، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «عَجِبْتُ لِغَافِلٍ وَلَا يُغْفَلُ عَنْهُ، وَعَجِبْتُ لِمَؤَمِّلٍ دُنْيَا وَالْمَوْتُ يَطْلُبُهُ، وَعَجِبْتُ لِضَاحِكٍ مِلْءَ فِيهِ وَلَا يَدْرِي أَأَرْضَى اللَّهَ أَمْ أَسْخَطَهُ؟»
Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am amazed at the heedless one, though heedlessness is not shown towards him; I am amazed at the one who longs for the world, though death is in search of him; and I am amazed at the one who laughs out loud, though he does not know whether he has pleased Allah or angered Him."
