580 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ، مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ أبنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ الْأَنْبَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ الصَّاغَانِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ هَاشِمٍ الْغَسَّانِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، قَالَ: مَرَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِقَوْمٍ يَرْمُونَ نَبْلًا فَعَابَ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنَّا قَوْمٌ مُتَعَلِّمِينَ، فَقَالَ: «لَحْنُكُمْ عَلَيْنَا أَشَدُّ مِنْ سُوءِ رَمْيِكِمْ» ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «رَحِمَ اللَّهُ امْرَءًا أَصْلَحَ مِنْ لِسَانِهِ»
Mus'ab bin Sa'd (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna 'Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by some people who were practicing archery. He pointed out their weakness, so they said: "O Commander of the Faithful! We are just learning." He said: "The word you have spoken is harsher to us than your poor aim. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'May Allah have mercy on the person who corrects his tongue.'"
