Hadith 247
247 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَاجِّ الْإِشْبِيلِيُّ، ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ الْمَقْدِسِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ، قَالَ: ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَحِيرٍ، عَنْ هَانِئٍ، مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «الْقَبْرُ أَوَّلُ مَنْزِلٍ مِنْ مَنَازِلِ الْآخِرَةِ»
Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The grave is the first stage among the stages of the Hereafter."
Hadith 248
248 - أَخْبَرَنَا تُرَابُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ الْكَاتِبُ وَإِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْغَازِي، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُفَسِّرِ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَحِيرٍ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ هَانِئًا، مَوْلَى عُثْمَانَ يَقُولُ: كَانَ عُثْمَانُ إِذَا وَقَفَ عَلَى قَبْرٍ بَكَى حَتَّى تَبْتَلَّ لِحْيَتُهُ، قَالَ: فَقِيلَ لَهُ تُذْكَرُ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ وَلَا تَبْكِي، وَتَبْكِي مِنْ هَذَا؟، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ الْقَبْرَ أَوَّلُ مَنْزِلٍ مِنْ مَنَازِلِ الْآخِرَةِ» وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ
Sayyiduna ‘Uthman’s freed slave Hani’ reports that when Sayyiduna ‘Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) would stand by a grave, he would weep so much that his beard would become wet. Hani’ says that it was said to him: “Paradise and Hell are mentioned before you, yet you do not weep (so much), but you weep (so much) at this (grave)?” So he said: “Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Indeed, the grave is the first stage among the stages of the Hereafter.’” And he narrated this hadith... And he narrated this hadith.
