الْكَيْسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى
The wise is the one who disciplines himself and works for what is after death, and the incapable is the one who follows his desires and wishes upon Allah

Hadith 185
185 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بُهْزَاذَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الصَّائِغُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَالِينِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ حَمْدَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا عَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، قَالَا: ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «الْكَيْسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى»
Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “The intelligent one is he who takes account of his own self and prepares for (the life) after death, and the foolish one is he who lets himself follow his desires and (still) places hope in Allah the Exalted.”
