It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Ghayrah (protective jealousy) is from faith, and mura' (argumentation) is from hypocrisy." The narrator says that a person from the people of Kufa asked (the narrator of the hadith) Zaid bin Aslam: What is mura'? He replied: To be without ghayrah (protective jealousy), O Iraqi! In this hadith, the word "mura'" has come with the letter "ra", and what Abu Ubaid has narrated as "mada'" with the letter "dhal", he says that it is also narrated as "madhal" with "dhal" and "lam". But the correct one is the first. And the meaning of (mada') is that a man allows other men to approach his wife, and such a (shameless) man is called "qandi" and "dayyuth", and both these words are from the Syriac language, and the word "mada'" is derived from "madhi" because they are shameless with each other. And yes, the word "madhal" with "lam" is from their saying when a man, being distressed, reveals a secret. (This word is used) when a person, being restless and distressed, discloses a secret. Qadi Abu Abdullah says: The correct word is "mada'" with "dhal mu'jam", and "mura'" with "ra" is a scribe's mistake.
