Hadith 104
104 - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَصْبَحَتْ يَوْمًا قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ وَنَحْنُ نَسِيرُ فَقَالَ: «أَلَا أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ الْخَيْرِ الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ الْخَطِيئَةَ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ، وَصَلَاةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ»
Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I was with the Prophet (peace be upon him) on a journey. One day, while we were walking, I came close to him. He said: "Shall I not tell you about the doors of goodness? Fasting is a shield, charity extinguishes sins (the fire of sins) just as water extinguishes fire, and a man's prayer during the night."
Hadith 105
105 - أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السَّدُوسِيُّ، أبنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الرَّازِيُّ، ثنا مِقْدَامُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَابِطٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ: «يَا كَعْبُ الصَّلَاةُ قُرْبَانٌ، وَالصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُطْفِئُ غَضَبَ الرَّبِّ كَمَا يُطْفِئُ الْمَاءُ النَّارَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Ka'b bin Ujrah: "O Ka'b! Prayer is a means, fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes the wrath of the Lord Almighty just as water extinguishes fire."
