الْعِلْمُ لَا يَحِلُّ مَنَعُهُ
It is not permissible to withhold knowledge
Hadith 84
84 - حَدَّثَ شَيْخِنَا أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْمُقْرِئُ، ثنا أَبُو الطَّيِّبِ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الشَّافِعِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ، ثنا أَبُو نُفَيْلٍ عُبَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْعَسْقَلَانِيُّ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ صَدَقَةَ، إِمَامُ أَنْطَاكِيَةَ، ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ شَاكِرٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " أَيُّ شَيْءٍ لَا يَحِلُّ مَنَعُهُ؟، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمُ: الْمِلْحُ، وَقَالَ آخَرُ: النَّارُ، فَلَمَّا أَعْيَاهُمْ قَالُوا: اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: «ذَلِكَ الْعِلْمُ لَا يَحِلُّ مَنَعُهُ»
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is that thing which it is not permissible to withhold?" Someone said: Salt. Someone said: Fire. Then when this (question) rendered them unable (to answer), they said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is knowledge, which it is not permissible to withhold."
