الْوَلَدُ مَبْخَلَةٌ مَجْبَنَةٌ
Children are a cause of miserliness and cowardice
Hadith 25
25 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، أبنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ طَالِبٍ، أبنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ خَلَّادٍ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَفَّانُ، ثنا وَهَيْبٌ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ، عَنْ يَعْلَى الْعَامِرِيِّ، قَالَ: جَاءَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ يَسْتَبِقَانِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَضَمَّهُمَا إِلَيْهِ وَقَالَ: «الْوَلَدُ مَبْخَلَةٌ مَجْبَنَةٌ»
Sayyiduna Ya'la Amiri (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that once Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) came running to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace be upon him) embraced them and said: "Children are a cause of miserliness and cowardice."
Hadith 26
26 - أَخْبَرَنَا الشَّرِيفُ أَبُو إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ الْمَيْمُونِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الْحُسْنِيُّ، ثنا جَدِّي أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ الْمَيْمُونُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الْحُسْنِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُوسَى بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ، ثنا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَعَبَّاسٌ النَّرْسِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ، عَنِ ابْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، ثنا سَعِيدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ يَعْلَى بْنُ مُرَّةَ، أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ، وَالْحُسَيْنَ، أَقْبَلَا يَسْتَبِقَانِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا أَنْ جَاءَهُ أَحَدُهُمَا جَعَلَ يَدَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ الْآخَرُ فَجَعَلَ يَدَهُ فِي عُنُقِهِ، فَقَبَّلَ هَذَا، ثُمَّ قَبَّلَ هَذَا، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُحِبُّهُمَا فَأَحِبَّهُمَا، أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ الْوَلَدَ مَبْخَلَةٌ مَجْهَلَةٌ مَجْبَنَةٌ، وَإِنَّ آخِرَ وَطْأَةٍ وَطِئَهَا رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ بِوَجٍّ»
Sayyiduna Ya’la bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) came running to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). One of them reached him (first), so he placed his hand on his neck. Then the other also came, so he placed his (other) hand on his neck. Then he kissed him, then he kissed the other, and then said: “O Allah! I love both of them, so You also love them.” (And he said:) “O people! Indeed, children are a cause of miserliness, ignorance, and cowardice.” (And he said:) “Indeed, the last land to be trodden by the Lord of the worlds is ‘Waj’.”
