999 - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، أبنا زَاهِرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، أبنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ إِعْطَاءَ هَذَا الْمَالِ فِتْنَةٌ، وَإِمْسَاكَهُ فِتْنَةٌ»
It is narrated from Mutarrif that indeed one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, related to him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the acquisition of this wealth is a trial, and withholding it is also a trial."

It is understood that wealth and property are a trial for a person in every respect; both acquiring it and not acquiring it are tests. In the intoxication of wealth, a person becomes disobedient to his Creator and Master, while poverty can also make a person ungrateful and disobedient to Allah Ta'ala. Therefore, this wealth has been declared a source of temptation (fitnah) and trial for a person.
