Brief Explanation
Explanation: - Among those actions which are called good acts of worship (ibadah hasanah), or which fall under good acts of worship, one is that a person should have a good opinion (husn al-zann) regarding Allah Ta'ala and His servants. Having a good opinion of Allah Ta'ala is that one worships Him with sincerity in this world and hopes for His mercy in the Hereafter. The Noble Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, three days before his passing, said: "Let none of you die except while he has a good opinion of Allah." [مسلم : 2877]
On one occasion, the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam came to a young man who was near death. He asked: "How do you find yourself?" He replied: "O Messenger of Allah! I have hope in Allah (for His mercy) and I also fear for my sins." So the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Whenever these two things (hope in Allah's mercy and fear of sins) are combined in the heart of a servant, Allah grants him that which he hopes for and grants him safety from that which he fears." [ابن ماجه : 4261 ، حسن]
And in a hadith qudsi, Allah says: "I am as My servant thinks of Me." [بخاري : 7505]
Having a good opinion of people is that one does not harbor suspicion about them. It is forbidden (haram) to have suspicion and negative thoughts about someone whose outward state is good; one should always maintain a good opinion of the people of virtue.
