Hadith 921

Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: The son of Adam hurts Me; he abuses time, whereas I am time (i.e., the Creator of time). All authority is in My hand; I am the One Who alternates the night and the day."

Brief Explanation
Explanation:
From these ahadith, it is understood that it is not permissible to speak ill of "Dahr" (time/era), because time has always remained the same; the same months and years, the same nights and days as before. However, people and their actions keep changing. A person begins to attribute his own misdeeds to the era and starts cursing the time, which is a major sin (kabirah gunaah).

Allah Ta'ala has attributed time to Himself because He alone has control over it, He is its Creator, and He is the One who manages it. Therefore, He said, "I am the time," meaning that the one who speaks ill of time is, in reality, speaking ill of Allah Ta'ala. Just as finding fault in a building is, in fact, to point out a weakness in its builder, or finding errors in a book is to point out a weakness in its author, similarly, to speak ill of time is to speak ill of Allah Ta'ala. And to speak ill of Allah Ta'ala is to cause Him pain, which is a major sin (kabirah gunaah).
