لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ الْبَأْسُA servant does not reach piety until he leaves what is harmless out of fear of what is harmful

911 - وأنا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأُدْفُوِيُّ، أنا أَبُو الطَّيِّبِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ إِجَازَةً، نا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ الطَّبَرِيُّ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ، نا أَبُو النَّضْرِ هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، نا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ السَّعْدِيِّ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ الْبَأْسُ»
Sayyiduna Atiyyah Sa'di, may Allah be pleased with him, who is among the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A servant cannot reach the rank of the pious until he abandons even those things in which there is no harm, in order to avoid doubtful matters."
