لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ الْبَأْسُA servant does not reach piety until he leaves what is harmless out of fear of what is harmful

910 - أنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، أنا أَبُو عَمْرٍو السَّمَرْقَنْدِيُّ، نا أَبُو أُمَيَّةَ، نا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، نا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ، نا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، حَدَّثَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ السَّعْدِيِّ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: «لَا يَبْلُغُ الْعَبْدُ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ حَتَّى يَدَعَ مَا لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ حَذَرًا لِمَا بِهِ بَأْسٌ»
Sayyiduna Atiyyah Sa'di (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "A servant cannot reach the rank of the pious until he leaves even those things in which there is no harm, in order to avoid doubtful matters."
