Hadith 891

Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: “A servant cannot perfect the reality of faith until he is certain that whatever has reached him could not have missed him, and whatever has missed him could not have reached him (in any way).”

Brief Explanation
Explanation: -
From these ahadith, it is understood that the completion of faith is only possible when a servant believes in both good and bad predestination (qadar). The servant who has certainty that whatever benefit or harm is occurring to him, all of it is written in his destiny (qadar); whatever is reaching him could never have missed him, and whatever did not reach him could never have reached him—no matter how many plans he makes, destiny will always prevail. The servant who has this firm conviction has attained the reality of faith (iman).

The Companion of the Messenger, Sayyiduna ‘Ubada ibn as-Samit radi Allahu anhu, while advising his son, said: “My son! You cannot attain the reality of faith until you are certain that whatever has come to you could never have missed you, and whatever has missed you could never have come to you.”

I heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “The first thing Allah created was the Pen (qalam), then He said to it: Write. It said: My Lord! What should I write? Allah said: Write the destiny (qadar) of everything until the Day of Resurrection.”

My son! Indeed, I also heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say: “Whoever dies upon any other (belief) than this, he is not from me.”
