889 - وأنا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ، عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُوسَى السِّمْسَارُ، أنا أَبُو زَيْدٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْهَرَوِيُّ، نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفَرَبْرِيُّ، أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْبُخَارِيُّ، نا مُسَدَّدٌ، نا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا يُؤْمِنُ عَبْدٌ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لِأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ»
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: "A servant cannot be a believer until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."

In these ahadith, the virtue of mutual goodwill among Muslims and encouragement towards it is mentioned. When a Muslim desires for his fellow Muslim what he desires for himself, then in every matter he will act with goodwill towards the other Muslim and will never wish ill for him. And when every Muslim adopts this character, then no Muslim will remain an enemy or ill-wisher of another Muslim; rather, every Muslim will be a sympathizer, helper, and well-wisher of the other. And regarding a society in which this is the case, what doubt or uncertainty can there be about its pleasantness and tranquility? Alas! If only Muslim societies could be molded into this form. (Riyadh as-Salihin: 1/231)
