It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that indeed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said . . . . . . and he narrated this hadith. And with another chain of narration, it is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "It does not befit a truthful person to be greatly given to cursing." Imam Muslim has also narrated it with his chain, and in it (instead of "al-siddiq") there is "li-siddiq" with a "lam."

Brief Explanation
Explanation: A "Siddiq" is a person who is truthful and upright in both his words and actions, whose character and speech are consistent and in harmony, without contradiction. After prophethood and messengership, the rank of Siddiq comes next. In the mentioned hadith, "Siddiq" refers to a true Muslim and believer, as is stated in the word of Allah, the Exalted:
﴿وَالَّذِينَآمَنُوابِاللَّهِوَرُسُلِهِأُولَٰئِكَهُمُالصِّدِّيقُونَ﴾ (Al-Hadid: 19) "Those who believe in Allah and His messengers, they are the Siddiqs (the truthful) in the sight of their Lord."
This is also supported by these ahadith: It is said, "A believer is neither one who taunts nor one who curses, nor is he indecent in speech nor foul-mouthed." [ترمذي : 1977 ، وسنده حسن]
And it is said, "It does not befit a believer to be excessively cursing." [بزار : 2092 ، و سنده صحيح]
And it is said, "It does not befit a Muslim to be excessively cursing." [شعب الايمان : 4792 ، وسنده حسن]
The meaning is that cursing and taunting are not befitting for any Muslim. Those people should take heed for whom cursing and reviling (tabarra) are considered the best form of worship in their religion. All praise is due to Allah, the Ahl al-Hadith have neither considered cursing as worship nor made it a habit. According to us, firstly: it is not permissible to curse anyone by name except for the one whom Allah or His Messenger has cursed by name. Secondly: cursing without specifying a name, for example, "May Allah's curse be upon the liars and the oppressors," although it is permissible, even then we do not make cursing our practice or habit such that we are always engaged in cursing. In any case, cursing, taunting, and reviling are contrary to the perfection of faith and the perfection of truthfulness.
