Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No major sin remains with seeking forgiveness, and no minor sin remains with persistence."
Benefit: It is narrated from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr that a man asked Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas radi Allahu anhu: “How many are the major sins (kaba’ir)?” He replied: “They are up to seven hundred, but very close to seven. And the reality is that with seeking forgiveness (istighfar), no sin remains major (kabira), and with persistence (israr), no sin remains minor (saghira).” [تفسير ابن ابي حاتم : 934/3 النساء : ۳۱ ، وسنده صحيح]
